NIDO

Birth to 18 months

NIDO, ‘The Nest’, is the small, warm, comforting world designed for the infant.

The parent or carer is there at all times, benefiting from the gentle guidance of the director to learn the most helpful ways of responding to the child’s needs. The purpose is to empower parents to feel confident in helping their own children to ‘do it themselves’. In Dr Maria Montessori’s own words, “Our work as adults does not consist in teaching, but in helping the infant mind in its work of development”. Montessori believed that the first three years of life form the foundation for the rest of our lives.

The infants in NIDO are from birth to 18 months old and already want to prove how much they are interested in the world and the people around them. Child and parent or carer attend a once-weekly session for the 8 weeks of term.

The range of activities include:

  • Care of the self
  • Care of the environment
  • Food Preparation
  • Sensorial Development
  • Hand-Eye Coordination
  • Language enrichment
  • Art and Craft
  • Natural Science experiences
  • Gross Motor Movement
  • Fine Motor Movement
  • Social Relationships
